An improved fracture toughness of 54% was obtained after designed cold rolling. Numerous shear bands and crack bifurcation are responsible for improved toughness. Precrack patterns of Mode I fracture tests are closely related to cold rolling. Precrack patterns for an effective Mode I fracture testing were evaluated.
