A comparative study on the synthesis mechanism, bioactivity and mechanical properties of three silicate bioceramics

Synthesis, bioactivity and mechanical properties of three bioceramics were studied. Highest compressive strength was related to baghdadite and the lowest one was related to akermanite. Baghdadite has slow apatite deposition ability after 21 days of immersion in SBF. Higher density of baghdadite resulted in less release of calcium into SBF.
