Thermo-responsive human α-elastin self-assembled nanoparticles for protein delivery

We designed a thermo-responsive, self-assembled α-elastin nanoparticle (PhENP). PhENPs showed sol-to-particle transition above a critical temperature (32 °C). PhENPs are able to encapsulate amounts of insulin/BSA upon simple mixing. The release profiles of insulin and BSA show sustained release over 72 h. PhENPs provide a useful tool for a range of injectable protein delivery systems.
