Formation of tribofilms from lubricant additives on CrN surfaces during tribological contact confirmed by XPS. Chemistry & chemical state of tribofilms obtained by XPS. Thin sulphate film forms at the top of sulphide tribofilm. Final type of sulphide in tribolayer depends on additive chemistry and testing temperature.
