Silica was isolated from the unconventional source of biological agricultural waste (rice straw). Copper doped wollastonite particles showed more potent antimicrobial effect than Ws. The particle was found to be cyto-compatible and enhances bone formation. Cu-Ws material would be cost effective implant for bone tissue engineering applications.
