Nanoscale physico-chemical investigation of complementary ZnO-Si nanocomposites and their photoconductive behavior

The ZnO-Si nanocomposites fabricated by facile solution process showed a better photoconductive behavior than the as-prepared ZnO nanorods. The ZnO-Si nanocomposites had peculiar nm-sized Si-rich phases on the surface, where effective band gap was decreased. A collaborative interaction between ZnO nanorods and Si-rich phases led to an enhancement of photoconductive behavior.
