Changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of (Ti0.88W0.12)C and (Ti0.88W0.12) (C0.7N0.3)-20Ni upon Mo addition

Increasing the Mo content led to greater grain growth of the TiC phase than W addition. The added Mo stabilizes the TiC phase more than W in (Ti0.88W0.12)C. W atoms move from the (Ti0.88W0.12)C grains to the nickel binder, forming (Ti,Mo)C. Addition of Mo increased all the mechanical properties, including hardness and toughness.
