Atomic layer deposition can be successfully used in aerospace applications. TiO2, ZnO and Ti-Zn mixed oxide are selected as coatings for Al ESAIL tethers. Morphological, optical and electrochemical characterizations are performed. Corrosion resistance is improved by using TiO2 and Ti-Zn in dark and UV light. Thin layers deposited by ALD act as anti-reflective coatings on ESAIL tethers.
