Neural changes associated with the striatum may contribute to adolescent anxiety. The striatum should be considered part of the anxiety network. Adolescent striatal development co-occurs with the peak vulnerability of adolescents to anxiety disorders. The striatum plays a canonical role in fundamental behavioral processes that affect anxiety.
