Children orphaned by Ebola are perceived to experience stigma in Sierra Leone. Health responses to contain the Ebola virus disease was said to contribute to stigma. Fear of Ebola undermines traditional community mechanisms. The challenges resonate with those experienced by children affected by HIV. Stigma reduction programmes should draw on the lessons learned in the HIV response.
