Medication use and adherence is poor during smoking cessation attempts among correctional populations (CP). Medication adherence is critical for successful smoking cessation among CP. Among CP, previous use of medication is associated with better subsequent medication adherence. Exposing CP smokers to medication before a quit attempt may increase adherence and quit.
