We evaluate the effect of neglecting radiative heat transfer in room airflow simulations. We model three rooms, with varying amounts of wall surface exposed to heat transfer, and under two possible airflow conditions: wind driven and buoyancy driven ventilation. We find that neglecting radiative heat transfer has a significant effect on the vertical room air temperature distribution. When performing room airflow simulations, with scale models or with CFD, radiation should be accounted for in order to predict occupant thermal comfort conditions accurately.
