Effect of irradiation on Ti3AlC2 samples by using electron-beams is discussed here. After 100 keV electron irradiation, there's no change in morphology and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns. After 200 keV electron irradiation, the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) shows that sputtering of atoms occurs, forming ‘holes’ and ‘wave pattern’. During irradiation, aluminum atoms are mainly sputtered away at the beginning. While the SAED patterns demonstrate that no amorphization occurrs, interplanar spacings decrease.
