Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of a Supramolecular Host鈥揋uest Assembly Constructed by Fullerenes and Tryptamine Modified Hypocrellin

The metal coordination polymer of hypocrellin A bearing tryptamine motif (M鈥揇TrpHA) can include fullerene via a two-point interaction, involving 蟺鈥撓€ stacking and electron donor鈥揳cceptor interaction. The 1:1 host鈥揼uest system M鈥揇TrpHA/fullerene exhibits a moderate association constant Ka (6.62 脳 104 to 6.46 脳 105 M鈥?). Both of the metal ions in M鈥揇TrpHA and the substituents connected to the fullerene core play important roles in stabilizing the M鈥揇TrpHA/fullerene complex. Transient absorption spectral and NIR absorption spectral results demonstrate that, in the M鈥揇TrpHA/fullerene system, efficient photoinduced electron transfer from the tryptamine group in M鈥揇TrpHA to fullerene may occur, resulting in a long-lived fullerene anion radical. The observed order of quantum yield (桅ETT) and rate constants (KETT) for electron transfer via 3C60* is Y3+鈥揇TrpHA > La3+鈥揇TrpHA > DTrpHA, consistent with their binding ability to C60. The nanostructure of M鈥揇TrpHA is rearranged to form an interpenetrating network after interaction with fullerene.
