Mesoscopic and microscopic features of Precambrian metascdimentary rocks in the northeastern Front Range, Colorado, indicate that the formation of slafy cleavage involved extensive intergranular movement in the form of laminar intrusion of sedimentary material across bedding and the formation of clastic dikes. The formation of cleavage is believed to have occurred prior to metamorphism and to have been facilitated by high pore-fluid pressure.
